2026 The Aram Scholarship
(அறம் கல்வி உதவித்தொகை)
The Aram Scholarship was established to support Tamil youth pursuing higher education while encouraging a lifelong commitment to community, culture, and service.
The word “Aram” (அறம்) holds deep meaning in Tamil philosophy. Found prominently in classical Tamil literature such as the Tirukkural, Aram represents virtue, moral responsibility, compassion, and the duty one carries toward others and society.
This scholarship recognizes students who not only demonstrate academic dedication, but who also embody these values — showing a commitment to uplifting the Tamil community and preserving Tamil culture, language, and traditions.
By investing in the next generation, the Aram Scholarship seeks to empower young leaders who will pursue knowledge with integrity and carry forward the spirit of service, responsibility, and cultural pride for generations to come.
Every year the scholarship will be in the Memory of a notable Tamil community member or family. Reach out to us to share your stories!
In Memory of Mrs. Padmavathy Balasingham
The 2026 Scholarship is dedicated in loving memory of Mrs. Padmavathy Balasingam, a remarkable Tamil mother and immigrant whose life reflected resilience, humility, and deep cultural pride.
Later in life, Mrs. Balasingam immigrated to Canada to join her children, who were already working and building their lives there. In this new chapter, she became a constant source of strength and support for her family. She played an especially meaningful role in the lives of her grandchildren, helping guide them with love, wisdom, and the values that defined her life.
Even while adapting to a new country, she remained deeply committed to ensuring that her family stayed rooted in Tamil culture, language, and traditions. Her presence helped preserve these values across generations, creating a home where identity, community, and cultural pride were always nurtured.
Her legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren, who continue to carry forward the principles she quietly lived every day.
Through this scholarship, we honor her enduring example by supporting Tamil youth who pursue education while remaining committed to service, cultural preservation, and uplifting the Tamil community.
“யாதும் ஊரே யாவரும் கேளிர்.”
“Every place is my town; everyone is my kin.” — From Purananuru, reminding us that even across lands and generations, our values and humanity connect us.
