Sri Lanka 2025 Trip Summary

Program Overview

Our second year trip was met with alot of excitement and anticipation from the children in Sri Lanka. Having been engaged with the OneHome team throughout the year via online mentorship and tutoring, it was a heart warming homecoming for us.

This year our trip was slightly shorter but we still were able to impact over 180 youth in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. We were able to launch some new initiatives with the VTC program as well as bringing some new activities to the Children in the afternoons. Not only were we able to spend quality time with the kids, we were able to do something special for the moms this year as well! It was a great wrap for our second annual trip.

Going to Jaffna with the 2025 Youth Initiative was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. It wasn’t just about seeing the land my family came from — it was about truly connecting with it. Visiting the orphanages and spending time with the kids reminded me how important it is to give back, and how much strength and resilience lives in our people. I left with a fuller heart and a stronger sense of purpose."

This trip gave me the opportunity to bridge the gap between my life abroad and my roots in Sri Lanka. Working directly with children in the orphanages — playing, learning, just being present — made me feel part of something bigger. OneHome created a space for us to give back with compassion while learning more about our heritage, and I’ll carry that with me forever.

Being part of the 2025 Youth Initiative was eye-opening. I always heard stories about Jaffna from my parents, but seeing it with my own eyes, meeting the children, and contributing in a hands-on way changed everything. It made my identity feel real and grounded. I’m grateful to OneHome for creating this journey — it deepened my connection to my roots and showed me the power of community.
